ABOUT
Painting waves and the natural beauty surrounding them was something I never imagined doing. The "artist path" appeared suddenly towards the end of my career in finance when I became very ill with Leukemia. Nevertheless, here I am almost 5 years in and I know I'll be doing this for the rest of my life. Like surfing, painting immerses me into a space that is entirely intoxicating in the most positive ways. I am so lucky!
The artwork is generally inspired by two primary life experiences: The first of course is surfing. Surfing brings a person into some of the most pristine and spectacular locations on earth. 1000s of images are burned into my brain's "hard drive" . Many of my 50+ years of surfing experiences have been translated into my work as an artist. The other event was my battle from 2018-2021 with Leukemia. Due to a prolonged and difficult recovery from a bone marrow transplant, I could not surf for almost 2 years. The illness left me physically trashed and unable to do just about anything. However, it really ignited my creative side. The many months of idle time was put to good use. I began sketching lots of images, looking at my large collection of surf mag photos, as well as images on line. I saw things that I wanted to "recreate" in my own way. I had no painting experience, but had a lot of time to experiment. I learned various skills & techniques to achieve what I wanted to do. My paintings are the result of 1000s of hours of learning how to put my visions & ideas onto a canvas or some other media.
My primary goal with my artwork is to visually and mentally put the viewer into these special surfing locations as if they were actually there. Now that I'm retired, I have a great opportunity to share my artistic creativity with everyone that views my paintings . Enjoy!
